Hound Dog
by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller;
Changes by Debra Milligan
You, you, you
ain’t nothing but a
hound dog
Crying
when I write.
You
ain’t nothing
but a hound dog
Crying
at my door
all the time.
You ain’t never
caught
a rabbit,
like Bootsie nabbed it
and humbly set it out
for dinner time.
I admit
You’re high classed
Your pedigree
ain’t no lie.
You got those
Parker bloodlines
About them,
I won’t lie.
But you ain’t never
caught a rabbit
and they run by
here
all the time.
You you you
are my only
hound dog
Snouting door bells
to go outside.
You sure are
my only hound pup
Sittin’ in my chair
at dinnertime.
You don’t catch
a single rabbit
You’re too busy
cryin’ at my door
every night.
You, you, you
ain’t nothing but a
hound dog
Starin’ at me
while I type.
You won’t
catch any rabbits,
But maybe,
dagnabbit,
You got better
things to do
with your time.
Like dreaming
you catch rabbits
Cause you wag your tail
at sleepy-time.
You’re my ever-lovin’
hound dog
That is not a lie.
You love sleepy time
right by my side.
It’s okay you don’t catch
rabbits.
That’s why you’re
a friend of mine.
